On Sunday, the Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi hosted its annual awards ceremony at Punjab Kala Bhavan, featuring Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit as the chief guest. Distinguished authors and poets writing in Hindi, English, Punjabi, and Urdu were honored at the event. Rajeev Verma, Adviser to the Administrator, attended as the guest of honour.
Purohit expressed his pride and joy in participating in the celebration, offering hearty congratulations to the honored writers, creators, and scholars. He highlighted the critical role of words and language, calling them some of humanity's most important inventions."If language is the carrier of traditions and culture, then literature is the carrier of the thought process of society” he stated. He also emphasized that a nation’s wealth is not just measured in material terms but in its rich traditions and intellectual heritage.
The governor spoke on the responsibility that comes with freedom of expression, urging writers to exercise their freedom thoughtfully and avoid offending others' beliefs or sentiments. He encouraged young writers to foster intellectual discussions rather than stirring controversies.
